A great film if you like this genre, the fantasy part of this is somewhat hard to imagine but I guess back in the 1800’s maybe it was true...who knows? Whatever the case the plot was a good one. Originally based on the fiction novel “The Princess of Mars” I am told that it somewhat follows the plot of the book. However, not reading the book myself I am going to go off what I have been told.
The story takes us from the 1800’s in New York city to the Arizona territory, somewhere on the "backside of hell" where John Carter has found a cave of gold. From there he was transported to a desolate desert where his ability to even walk was quite impaired (oh, did I forget to mention 'on Mars'?). Moving forward he meets an entirely new breed of beings and this is where the story begins to be exciting. You won’t leave the theater with a sense of feeling that you didn’t get your money worth! The action, excitement, fight scenes, and of course the love affair that John Carter now begins with the Princess of Mars.
If I give you any more it will ruin the ending of the film, so I’ll leave you with this....See the movie, enjoy your experience, and let us know what you thought.
My Rating: 3 1/2 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3 1/2 Stars for those being too young to enjoy the Irish Ale.
