BIG MIRACLE (Feb 03, 2012)

Starring:  Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, John Pingayak, and Ahmaogak Sweeney
Director:  Ken Kwapis
Rated: PG  -  Runtime:  107 min
Genre:  Drama | Romance
It is just as it was advertised and named to be, “Big Miracle”.  After sitting through the movie the I found that the moments in time reenacted were amazing to say the least.  Being based on a true story and brought to the screen as it has been is nothing short of a must go for all school kids and most adults.  Of course there will be the critic that nit picks every event and try to cast a shadow on the events portrayed therein.  As for me, POOH (that's me trying to clean up my language) on any critic that has a bad thing to say about the movie....  Drew Barrymore plays the part of a Greenpeace volunteer with one purpose in mind.  Save the three Gray Whales which have been trapped by 5 miles of ice, and of course she gives a Drew Barrymore performance - Great as always!
As the movie and actual event took place the ending was successful but only because of a team effort which included a Soviet Ice Breaker, which was the only thing big enough and with enough power to crack through the barrier pack of ice at the oceans edge.
You’ll enjoy this movie especially if you are an animal activist in any way.  Even if you’re not, just the idea that an entire eskimo tribe, the US government, and the Soviet Union were able to come together and make this work should cast some interest in seeing how it was done.
My Rating: 3 1/2 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3 1/2 Stars for those not enjoying the better life with Irish Ale.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK (Feb 03, 2012)

Starring:  Daniel Radcliffe, Janet McTeer, Ciaran Hinds, and Emma Shorey
Director:  James Watkins
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  95 min
Genre:  Drama | Horror | Thriller
For all you thinking that this is going to be one of those scary movies that keep you on the edge of your seat you are in for a disappointment.  Although the movie is put together well in relation to the writing and the acting I believe that the darkness of the film takes away from it.
It is really difficult to see Daniel Radcliffe in a movie and not expect him to at some point pull out his wand and click his heels three times and end up in OZ.  Oops got that all screwed up aye?  At any rate it will take some time to see him in any other role than that of Harry Potter.
Overall I think you will like the movie, perhaps not enough to see it twice, but it is worth going out to see it once if you are one of those Ghosty film lovers.  You will find the ending a bit on

CHRONICLE (Feb 03, 2012)

Starring:  Michael B. Jordan, Michael Kelly, Alex Russell, and Dane DeHaan
Director:  Josh Trank
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  83 min
Genre:  Action | Drama | Sci-Fi | Thriller
For all you Sci-Fi Junkies I’m going to try to use a few words as I can in explaining this movie.... Wild Ride, Crazy Events, Excellent Ending.  Keep an eye on the screen and stay close to the events that take place.  If you should even leave the theater at all you might as well give up trying to guess what happens between the time you left and returned.  Bottom line, don’t fall asleep, blink, turn your head and talk to your neighbor or look down at the phone on your lap!
p.s. Your gonna either hate or love the ending there is no middle of the road on this one.
My Rating: 2 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 2 Stars for those not enjoying the better life with Irish Ale.

MAN ON A LEDGE (Jan 27, 2012)

Starring:  Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, and Mandy Gonzalez
Director:  Asger Leth
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  102 min
Genre:  Crime | Thriller
In short the movie has plenty of excitement along with a good story line which should have made this a great film.  Unfortunately it didn’t seem to have the draw either due to poor advertising, insufficient money to promote it or perhaps they just didn’t see the film as a huge money maker, who knows.....
As the movie starts the audience is presented with what’s happening currently, then we are taken back in time to see where everything seemed to go bottoms up for Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington).  If you haven’t seen any of the movie trailers you will find that isn’t clear why Nick is out on the ledge of the building..(but this is one of these movies that has been completely spoiled by trailers, for some reason the promoters of the film decided to add to the trailer a part that would have kept the movie goer guessing as to the reason).  I thought the acting from Worthington (Nick), Elizabeth Banks (Lydia Mercer), and Anthony Mackie (Mike Ackerman) were what makes the film what it is.
Overall I believe you will enjoy this one.
