THE GREY (Jan 27, 2012)

Starring:  Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, and Dallas Roberts
Director:  Joe Carnahan
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  117 min
Genre:  Action | Adventure | Drama | Thriller
A great movie overall!  The acting was as suspected from a Liam Neeson film, as was the action that we have come to expect from his movies.  It kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next.  7 men surviving a plane crash in the middle of a desolate area somewhere on the frozen tundra lends to the suspense that follows.  How to get out of the area, which way to traverse, and how to survive the elements of such a condition.  Burr !!!  It almost makes you cold watching the film.  I am really glad that in this age of theatrical presentations we haven’t gone to the extent of bringing to the viewer the climatic changes.  We would have had to been adorned with cold weather gear to watch this one!
Having given you the Pro’s of the movie and seemingly no Con’s, now I’m going to burst the bubble.
The ending!!!  What in the world was the writer thinking leaving off at probably the most climactic event in the movie?  Wow, what a let down.... Dear Mr. Carnahan, if you should read this (which of course I am not counting on) what the heck were you thinking?  You being not only the Director, but writer to boot, you could have done better!  But to my friends out there in the movie land, please don’t let that stop you from going out and seeing this movie.  There is enough enjoyment to overcome a poor ending.  After all it’s Liam Neeson...
My Rating: 3 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3 Stars for those not enjoying the better life with Irish Ale.
