ABDUCTION (Sep 23, 2011)

Starring:  Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins, and Alfred Molina
Director: John Singleton
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime: 106 min
Genre: Action | Drama | Mystery
I’m not gonna pull any punches here, I’m gonna tell it like I saw it (but the nice thing about this is it’s just one movie goers opinion, your’s is what counts!)
I don’t think Taylor Lautner has the stuff that’s going to make him the star he has been made out to be by some critics along with movie goers.
His performance lacked the luster of an actor taking on the persona of the character he portrays.  Meaning, I don’t think his heart is in the role.  It is almost like he has taken the script, read it, remembered it, and when given his cue simply repeated line for line the words.  It takes very few acting skills to read from a piece of paper.  He needs to become the person in the role he takes on, this is missing in this film!
Perhaps as he matures his skills may improve, but if you look at the movies he’s been in, “Yes” even Twilight, he has a great demeanor about him, but he lacks becoming one with the person he is portraying.
In Twilight I believe he was cast for the looks more than the acting skills, and once the first twilight movie was released, how the heck can you get rid of # 3 in a relationship without them going over the deep end..... (Charlie Sheen for example, the star of the show 2 and a half men.) Yah so much for that...
As for his co-star Lily Collins, she made the part more believable, acting out with commitment the role given her.  (fyi- for those of you not knowing this, she is Phil Collins daughter).
I thought the writing and acting of the parts played by the CIA agents, along with the foreign counterparts were a little overdone and quite unrealistic.  Really?, they are going to come into his home, slaughter the parents, and blow up the entire house.  But when they caught Karen (Collins) on the train the guy ties her up in a room and leaves?  Come on now writers, you could have done better....
The ending was in my estimation the best part of the film.
I Rate it:  2 mugs of Guinness (no more, no less)
“Let’s Talk Movies” ... Please let us know what you thought of the movie....
I appreciate all input, and hope you come back here after every movie and let us know how you rate it.
