WRATH OF THE TITANS (Mar 30, 2012)

Starring:  Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Rosamund Pike, and Ralph Fiennes
Director:  Jonathan Liebesman
Rated: PG  -  Runtime:  99 min
Genre:  Action | Adventure | Fantasy
After seeing this film, I don’t know yet which one was better.  The Clash of the Titans or this one, but right now I am going to say the first one!  Not sure if the 3d did it any justice at all or if it added anything to the movie.  As for the content, I’m going to have to give the first one the edge as well.  I do believe the acting was as good as the Clash of the Titans but this one didn’t have any catch phrase like “release the crakin”, so how is one to compare the two?  Let me know how you rate this one compared to the Clash....
My Rating: 3  Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3  Stars for those being too young to enjoy the Irish Ale.

MIRROR MIRROR (Mar 30, 2012)

Starring:  Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, and Nathan Lane
Director:  Tarsem Singh
Rated: PG  -  Runtime:  106 min
Genre:  Adventure | Comedy | Drama | Fantasy
Ok, gotta admit, being the Julia Roberts fan that I have been over the years and seeing her in this movie, just left me leaving the theater thinking “somethings wrong” Julia Roberts, an evil queen?  Oh come on now, who the hell did the casting?  They could have used Sigourney Weaver and gotten away with it, but Julia Roberts?  Seriously?  Yah the acting was okay at best but the story line was a bit corny.  Really the 7 dwarfs with the leg extensions to make them appear as giants in the forest.  Yikes, Relativity Media says the movie had a budget of $85 million, but an article in the Los Angeles Times said the true budget was closer to $100 million.  This one will be lucky to get out of the red in my estimation.  Sorry Julia!
My Rating: 2 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 2 Stars for those being too young to enjoy the Irish Ale.

THE HUNGER GAMES (Mar 23, 2012)

Starring:  Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Stanley Tucci
Director:  Gary Ross
Rated: R  -  Runtime:  142 min
Genre:  Action | Drama | Sci-Fi | Thriller
After seeing the movie (3 times now) I have to say, the Content, Acting, and Storyline is the best this year for sure.  I had to see it more than one time to get all the detail down so now that I have bought the trilogy to read I want to see how closely the book is to the film.  No matter the outcome, I still rate this one at the top of the field of films released thus far this year.  And from what the box office intake has been I am going to say that all you movie goers agree with me.  On the opening weekend it took in $155 million dollars which put the film in 3rd place for revenue on an opening weekend, behind the 2011 Harry Potter (finale), and 2008 Batman-Dark Knight.  With a budget of $78 million and a to-date world wide box office take of  $268,033,000 I think that Lionsgate will move forward with the remaining sequels, what do you think?
If you haven’t seen it yet, what in the world are you waiting for?  This is one you have to see to completely enjoy!!
My Rating: 5 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 5 Stars for those being too young to enjoy the Irish Ale.

DR. SEUSS‘ THE LORAX (Mar 16, 2012)

Starring:  Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Danny DeVito, and Ed Helms
Directors:  Chris Renaud, and Kyle Balda
Rated: PG  -  Runtime:  109 min
Genre:  Animation | Family | Fantasy
The only thing I can say about this movie, is if you have kids DON’T MISS TAKING THEM TO SEE IT!!!  It’s a Seuss classic and has been brought to the screen in a remarkable way.  The 3d and Big Screen of the IMAX will make the kids talk about it for years to come.  I’m still scratching my head about why they rated this film PG (Parental Guidance). Hmm, go figure...
My Rating: 3 1/2 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3 1/2 Stars for those being too young to enjoy the Irish Ale.

21 JUMP STREET (Mar 16, 2012)

Starring:  Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, and Brie Larson
Directors:  Phil Lord, and Chris Miller
Rated: R  -  Runtime:  109 min
Genre:  Action | Comedy
Hill and Tatum, have put their acting skill to use in this film and made a great comedy.  Between the antics of the two both 7 years earlier, and then again after meeting up at the police academy it was quite funny.
After Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) graduate from the police academy and get put on park duty and failing miserably they are assigned to an old program being brought back from the grave.
Of course they are somewhat of a pair going back to high school and trying to fit into an environment in which Schmidt never had a good experience with and Jenko was the Jock (0f course).  In the end all turns out to be somewhat of a positive experience for the two, but you need to see this one to truly enjoy the humor the two bring to the screen.
My Rating: 3 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3 Stars for those being too young to enjoy the Irish Ale.
