CONTAGION (Sep 9, 2011)

Starring:  Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Laurence Fishburne
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Rated: PG-13 -  Runtime: 105 min
Genre:  Adventure | Drama | Sci-Fi
I felt the movie overall was done very well.  The timing of the events, the horrible possibilities of what could happen were portrayed excellently.
I don’t know about you but if you don’t or didn’t leave the theater wondering if the seat you were setting in had been indeed contaminated somehow then you didn’t like the film.  It made me wonder if I even want the personnel behind the concession counter to fill my drink without wearing gloves.
This movie brings to light that the scenario of a world wide disease breakout as a possibility and this F’ing scary.
I saw it on the IMAX format, and wow, it was awesome.
The acting was done well, but you have performers who you wouldn’t expect anything less.  They came through with outstanding performances!
Please don’t let this one get away from you.....
The only thing that I have to say negative in anyway would be that you basically had an idea where the film was going from the beginning, but I feel that had been overcome by the excellent portrayal of the event and the acting throughout.
I Rate it:  4 mugs of Guinness, and I added an extra one just for the writers..
Ok, truthfully? I was playing darts at the pub and didn’t want the bartender to keep touching my mugs so I had him draw 5 to start with, Yikes, Contagion!!
“Let’s Talk Movies” ... Please let us know what you thought of the movie....
I appreciate all input, and hope you come back here after every movie and let us know how you rate it.
Thanks,  AZ-Tom

APOLLO 18 (Sep 2, 2011)

Starring:  Warren Christie, Lloyd Owen, and Ryan Robbins
Director:  Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  88 min
Genre:  Horror | Thriller | Sci-Fi
“Conspiracy Theory”?  Could it be?  This film was put together with footage made to look just like the original footage that was broadcasted back to earth from Apollo 11 mission on TV.  (yikes, I just dated myself)
I won’t go as far as to say the acting in the film left me with a sense of wanting to go out and tell others that they should see this movie.  It’s a simple script that anyone could have written leaving not too much to ones imagination other than “could it really be”?
The overall idea that the U.S. Cancelled all missions after that makes one wonder if this could be the reason.  Did they really find extra terrestrial being?  What are your thoughts?
My Rating: 1 1/2 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 1 1/2 Stars for those not enjoying the better life with Irish Ale.

"THE DEBT" (Sep 2, 2011)

Starring:  Helen Mirren, Jessica Chastain, Tom Wilkinson, Marton Csokas, Ciaran Hinds, and Sam Worthington

Director:  John Madden
Rated: R  -  Runtime:  113 min
Genre:  Drama | Thriller
I think this one will surprise you.  It did me after all the bad reviews I have heard or read.  I was pleasantly surprised at how the writers and director managed to mesh the scenes of past with those of the present.
You know what I’m talking about if you have seen any movies that jump from one time period to another.  It happens in this movie, but I never lost track of where the film was going.  The attention of the audience could have been a problem, but this was completely overcome by good acting and writing, thanks guys you got it right!
The cast, Rachael Singer (Helen Mirren), Young Rachael (Jessica Chastain), Stephan Gold (Tom Wilkinson), Young Stephan (Martin Csokas), David Peretz (Ciaran Hinds), and Young David (Sam Worthington), all play excellent roles.  Rachael, Stephan, and David were sent into East Berlin in 1966 by the Mossad to bring back the man known as the Surgeon of Birkenau for trial in Israel.
As the plot thickens, the agents set up the capture and delivery of this “monster”.  Things go as planned all the way up to the transfer from the East to the West.
Your asking does the plot end with the capture and deportation as planned?  Here is where the plot takes a twist and I’m not going to ruin this one for you.
Please go see it and I believe you will be as satisfied with the outcome as was I!
My Rating: 3 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3 Stars for those not enjoying the better life with Irish Ale.
Note: For those of you who do not know, this is a remake of a 2007 film of the same name, I didn’t see this one so I have no comments on content vs. content, but would love to hear about it if you did see it.
