WAR HORSE (Dec 25, 2011)

Starring:  Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch....
Director:  Stephen Spielberg
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  146 min
Genre:  Drama | War
The movie will surprise you as it did me!  It is not merely about a boy and his horse.  It develops into a full epic about not just one family but the lives touched by just this one animal.
In short, this is an enjoyable film.  The Cinema-photography is fantastic.  The movie takes you through family bonds and the adventure of a young man’s struggle to regain the ownership of his horse that was sold by his father to the army to cover family needs.  It also takes us through the war between England and Germany and how a father and daughter found this horse, on their farm, after it escaped from the German stronghold.  A new found love of this horse by the daughter and the amazing events that took place up to and including the eventual conclusion of how the horse was reunited with the young farm boy.
You will not find this film one to sit back and simply enjoy, but you will find yourself becoming a part of the life of the horse, the families involved, the adventure of the young man during the war with Germany, and the finale.  Please enjoy this one, “A Must See - to appreciate”

MY WEEK WITH MARILYN (Limited Release - Dec, 2011)

Starring:  Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne, and Kenneth Branagh
Director:  Simon Curtis
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  99 min
Genre:  Drama
Yea, it finally came to our area, unfortunately late as usual but nonetheless, it arrived!
I was leery of what to expect after having limited release in Dec and not opening here until Jan.  But to my surprise I enjoyed the film in it's entirety.
After doing the research and finding out that Scarlett Johansson had become the frontrunner for the part of Marilyn with Kate Hudson, Amy Adams, and Michelle Williams being the runner-ups, I now know why Michelle Williams was chosen, she portrays wonderfully the part of Marilyn Monroe.  Her demeanor, sense of delivery, and onscreen beauty brought to this film is simply fantastic.
Every moment of the film keeps you engaged.  The film brought to us memories of a young mans diary accounts of one week with Marilyn during a 1957 production of the film "The Prince and the Showgirl".
If you haven't seen it yet, go see it.  I believe you will enjoy it!
My Rating: 3 1/2 Mugs of Guinness - aka; 3 1/2 Stars for those not enjoying the better life with Irish Ale.
