The film delivers a bio of Billy Beane’s plight with the Oakland A’s and the limited budget he had to work with after being torpedoed by the loss of Giambi and Damon.
Brad Pitt (Billy Beane) and Jonah Hill (Peter Brand) portray the two that took charge of the unorthodox method of reinventing the game itself “moneyball”.
It has been put together very well, and kept the interest of the entire audience throughout the 133 minute film. The use of the actual film footage has been incorporated very nicely into the film and lends greatly to the overall production. Especially the wins which Oakland put together to take the American League title of most consecutive games won, 20 straight. Wow, ever seen this happen? I would have loved to have been in the stadium when this took place.
The stars of the film, in my estimation, portrayed the events equal to or perhaps better than other bios which I have seen.
Nicely done, good acting, slow in a couple areas, but overall as noted, kept the attention of the audience throughout.
Prior to this movie being released I not aware of the events depicted throughout the movie and that this was a turning point for many baseball organizations. After all, it was only two years later that the Boston Red Sox’s using this (unorthodox) method of statistical analysis, broke the “Curse of the Bambino” and won their first championship title in 86 years.
I Rate it: 4 1/2 Mugs of Guinness
(stick around for an extra cause it may be some time before you see another sports film like this one).
