JOHN CARTER (Mar 09, 2012)

Starring:  Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe
Director:  Andrew Stanton
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  132 min
Genre:  Action | Adventure | Fantasy
A great film if you like this genre, the fantasy part of this is somewhat hard to imagine but I guess back in the 1800’s maybe it was true...who knows?  Whatever the case the plot was a good one.  Originally based on the fiction novel “The Princess of Mars” I am told that it somewhat follows the plot of the book.  However, not reading the book myself I am going to go off what I have been told.
The story takes us from the 1800’s in New York city to the Arizona territory, somewhere on the "backside of hell" where John Carter has found a cave of gold.  From there he was transported to a desolate desert where his ability to even walk was quite impaired (oh, did I forget to mention 'on Mars'?).  Moving forward he meets an entirely new breed of beings and this is where the story begins to be exciting.  You won’t leave the theater with a sense of feeling that you didn’t get your money worth!  The action, excitement, fight scenes, and of course the love affair that John Carter now begins with the Princess of Mars.
If I give you any more it will ruin the ending of the film, so I’ll leave you with this....See the movie, enjoy your experience, and let us know what you thought.

SILENT HOUSE (Mar 09, 2012)

Starring:  Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens, and Julia Taylor Ross
Directors:  Chris Kentis, and Laura Lau
Rated: R  -  Runtime:  85 min
Genre:  Horror
This is a make over of the 2010 film “The Silent House” or “La Casa Muda” the original title (based on a true story taking place in a small village in Uruguay).  It’s very close to the original with a few exceptions.  The exceptions can easily be overlooked as this equally as riveting as the original.  The film will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting for the eventual demise of Sarah (Olsen).  But for those of you seeing the original it may throw you the surprising ending as the house held the secrets of a youthful daughter and her two brothers.  I thought Elizabeth Olsen plays a fantastic part, and the acting makes it very real.
Bottom line, I think if  you like this genre you will like this film.  The down side of the film was the camera work as Sarah moves throughout the house, and runs across the field outside the house.  It was done so as to imitate the original but perhaps could have been improved upon.  But overall I thought the film was well worth the time and money spent.

A THOUSAND WORDS (Mar 09, 2012)

Starring:  Eddie Murphy, Cliff Curtis, Kerry Washington, and Clark Duke
Directors:  Brian Robbins
Rated: PG-13  -  Runtime:  91 min
Genre:  Comedy | Drama
Really disappointed in this movie, as you all know by seeing the trailers that it's about McCall (Murphy) and a Bodhi tree.  What is Eddie Murphy's greatest gift to his movies?  It's his ability to say the damnedest things with the faces only Murphy could make.  Guess what, they cast such a genius into a movie where he has to keep his mouth closed and not say a word?  If you ask me that was the poorest move that could have been made for this movie!  If you cast someone with this ability, utilize it!  Don't take it away!!!!
