If it’s a fight action movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, then this one does it. Nolte plays a recovering alcoholic, former fighter and trainer.
Without spoiling the outcome, Nolte’s two sons, now going by different last names enter the “fight of the century” winner taking home a $5 million purse. The two brothers, Tommy (Hardy) and Brendan (Edgerton), set out on what is a collision course, neither knowing the other has entered the fight.
Each brother have different reasons for reaching out to become the winner of this enormous purse, one for reasons that if I go into it could ruin the plot for you, but the other for simply gaining his life back after being placed on suspension from the school where he is a physics teacher.
I thought the acting was good, the portrait of the two brothers both having issues with the father was probably about as close to being real as the writers could get it. At times the audience will feel sorry for Nolte’s character, as the father, but as the plot continues I believe it becomes apparent why.
Bottom line, the brothers train, enter the contest, and eventually become the two fighters left to battle it out in the final round of the event. The audience is given a feel for being in the ring and a part of the bout.
Again, if you enjoy this type of action and suspense you will like this movie.
I Rate it: 4 mugs of Guinness
